About This Tool

The mole is the SI unit of amount of substance, and the relationship n = m/M — where n is moles, m is mass in grams, and M is molar mass in g/mol — is one of the most frequently used expressions in quantitative chemistry. This calculator provides two modes: converting a known mass to moles, and converting a known number of moles to mass. Both modes include a searchable molar mass field that accepts element names or symbols and retrieves atomic weights from a built-in database of all 118 elements, removing the need to look up values separately. For compounds, enter the molar mass directly as a number. Common applications include stoichiometric calculations, limiting reagent analysis, solution preparation, and yield calculations in synthetic chemistry.
